Imaging
When children need an imaging scan it is really helpful to show them what is going to happen. Children who are prepared for a hospital procedure feel less anxious, more in control and are better able to complete the tests. It is important that children are calm and lie still during the scan so the imaging is a high quality at the first attempt and no further scans are needed. We show step by step what happens during MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound and nuclear medicine renal imaging (DMSA and MAG3). The videos also include the sound of the MRI machine so children know what to expect. We also made videos with ideas for pretend play to help younger children use cardboard boxes, stickers and wires to play their teddy is having an MRI, CT, X-ray or Ultrasound.
